This class becomes available on October 1, 2025. Time is a vital and excitingly flexible element of narrative. In this class we’ll discuss time frames, past/present/future structures, pacing, leaps and jump cuts, back story and flashback, repetition, non-traditional time forms and other aspects of time in fiction.

Charlotte & Emily discuss time scales and frames, how to use flashback and back story without creating drag, slowing and speeding narrative for different results, tenses and their effects, as well as non-traditional time forms such as loops and parallel time frames. As well, we answer real writers' questions on managing the complexities of time in narrative work.
